Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary

Chimmini Wildlife sanctuary situated in Thrissur district in the state Kerala. This wild life sanctuary spreads around 85.067 square kilometre and established in 1984. The Sanctuary located in the serene ambiance of Western Ghats is one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. It lies at an altitude between 40 m to 1110 m above sea level. This is the best place to explore wildlife and involve yourself in various activities. The lush surroundings provide an ideal habitat for flowering plants, birds, butterflies and wildlife. The sanctuary has a dam, which was constructed across the Chimmini River at 75 m above the sea level. This sanctuary is a haven of different species of endangered plants animals and birds. One might even come across the Southern Birdwing, India's largest butterfly or the Blue Mormon, the second largest butterfly in the Western Ghats. The Atlas moth, the largest in the world is also spotted here.
