The Lighthouse is situated in Thikodi, near Koyilandy in Kozhikode district on the coast of Arabian sea in Kerala. The circular stone masonry tower has a height of 34 meters. Kappad, or Kappakadavu locally, is a beach near Kozhikode, in the district of the same name, Kerala, India. Kappad is that beach on which the Portuguese navigator, Vasco-Da-Gama kept his foot when he arrived in Kerala, way back in the year 1498. A stone monument installed by government commemorates the "landing" by Vasco da Gama with the inscription, 'Vasco da Gama landed here, Kappakadavu, in the year 1498' A lush, serene beach shaded by inland palm trees, it has golden sands. Tail Shiva Temple or Tail Mahakshetram is a Hindu temple dedicated to the deity Lord Shiva, situated in the heart of the Kozhikode city, Kerala. Tali temple is one of the oldest temples in Kozhikode. The founding and prosperity of Kozhikode city is closely linked with the sanctity of this ancient temple. It is believed that the lingam in the sanctum of the Temple was installed towards the end of Dwaparayuga by Sri. Parasurama. The posture in the sanctum is that of Umamaheswara. Though this divine power existed from time immemorial, the attention of the citizens of Kozhikode was (bestowed on the temple) only by about 1500 years ago. Mananchira is a man-made freshwater pond situated in the centre of the city of Kozhikode in Kerala, southern India. The pond is 3.49 acres (14,120 m2) in area, is rectangular in shape and is fed by a natural spring. Mananchira was built as a bathing pool by the Zamorin Mana Vikrama, the feudal ruler of Kozhikode in around the 14th century. The laterite obtained from excavating the pond was used to construct two palaces to the east and west. In the late 19th century, Calicut's municipal council decreed that the pond was to be reserved exclusively for drinking purposes, and prohibited its use for bathing, washing and recreational activities—a ruling that has remained in place ever since. The pond is an important source of drinking water for Kozhikode. Mananchira Square is a popular tourist destination in Kozhikode.
